On July 23, 2018, Search Engine Journal conducted a poll asking its Twitter audience “Which #DigitalMarketing channel has the highest ROI for your website? #SEJSurveySays”

 

 

According to the poll

  • 49 % of the respondents said that Organic Search is the digital marketing channel that brings in the highest ROI
  • 19 % said that Paid Search is the one that yields biggest returns to their website
  • 18 % considered Social Media as the highest ROI-generating digital marketing channel
  • 14 % responded that email delivers the highest ROI for their website

Although most of the respondents found success in using organic search to generate the highest ROI for their websites, that doesn’t mean you should disregard all other digital marketing channels.

 

There are a lot of factors to study and take into consideration when looking for the best marketing channel to focus on. It will be perfect to check out the best practices and benchmarks for your industry; then craft, work and fine-tune your digital marketing strategy depending on your goals. KPIs should be set and tracked so you can figure out the success of your campaigns.

 

It will be exceptional to see if SEJ will conduct an improved version of this poll that will include various industries. Something like “What digital marketing channel has the highest ROI for websites on (this industry e.g. healthcare, investments)?”. Won’t that be cool?

 

We’ll let you know when that happens. For now, it’s good to know that Organic search is still the most where most sales comes from for businesses in general.
